Estethica is the platform at London Fashion Week dedicated to promoting the best 'cutting edge designers committed to working eco sustainably'. I visited early in the morning, on the first day of LFW to see the collections up close. Here are a few of my favourite displays from Estethica Autumn / Winter 2013...
I recently took part in my first webinar. To be honest, when I registered, I didn't even know what a webinar was. This particular online get-together was in aid of the 2013 SOURCE Brand Preview.
Week thirteen in London. A new year. New friends. A new place to live. A new bedroom (thankfully with a window this time). New housemates. I should be excited, right?
But I'm not.
Unfortunately much of the excitement and optimism that wrapped my first blog post has disappeared with the decent weather. Although London life fits me like a glove - there is one department that has left a lot to be desired.
Where are these new ethical and sustainable designers I had been so excited about discovering?
In 2011 I was asked to be a bridesmaid for the first time. My dear friend, the bride, who had been a bridesmaid an impressive eight times, assured me I wouldn’t be asked to wear anything I find repellent (a fate that has befallen her on numerous occasions). She added however that I was unlikely to ever wear the dress again. As a slow fashion convert this did not sit well with me - the first commandment of sustainable style is ‘thou shalt not buy a garment unless thou wilt get a lot of wear out of it’ – til death do us part!
At the end of last month we celebrated our new website by launching the Sew It Forward initiative. This week, as we celebrate our one month birthday, I would like to say a huge thank you to all those that supported us with our launch event.
Eight weeks ago I landed in London. I was pleasantly surprised to see the sun high in the sky, as I had been preparing myself (after strong advice from some English friends) for the worst. I arrived with my backpack, 'Monty,' a very small amount of luggage (mainly summer gear, far more suited to the three month trip I'd just taken backpacking through Europe) and the contact details of a girl I'd met many years ago. No job. No place to live. No family. No friends. No warm clothes.
Yet I was excited.
